Genie uses AI models to analyze data, generate responses, and perform tasks based on your requests. Because AI processing requires compute resources that vary depending on the complexity of each request, Genie usage is measured to ensure consistent performance and fair access for all users.

This article explains how Genie usage currently works and how the upcoming credit-based model will function once it becomes available.

Understanding Genie pricing and usage limits

Genie is currently in an early access phase and is available at no additional cost for users on paid Databox plans. During this period, usage includes daily limits while Databox continues refining the experience and preparing the upcoming credit-based model.

Advance notice will be provided before the credit-based system becomes active so teams have time to understand the changes and adjust their usage if needed.

Genie usage today (early access)

The following limits apply during the early access period.

Limit Details
Chats per day Up to 50 chats per user per day
Messages per chat Up to 25 messages per conversation
Reset schedule Limits reset every day

Limits apply per user, meaning each member of your team receives their own daily allowance.

Genie usage in the future (credit-based model)

After the early access period, Genie usage will transition to a credit-based model.

Each Databox plan will include a monthly credit allowance at no additional cost. Higher-tier plans will include larger credit allocations.

Credits represent the amount of AI processing required to complete a request. Simpler tasks use fewer credits, while more complex requests use more. The number of credits used for each response will always be visible.

Credit usage follows these rules:

  • Credits are shared across your account — all users draw from the same credit pool.
  • Credits reset each billing cycle — your full credit allowance is restored at the start of the billing cycle.
  • Unused credits do not roll over — remaining credits expire at the end of the billing cycle.
  • No incomplete replies — Genie finishes generating the current message even if credits run out.

If your team needs additional credits beyond what your plan includes, account administrators will be able to enable extra credits for a per-usage cost. Administrators will also have the option to turn additional credits on or off and set spending limits if needed.

pinNote: Agency accounts will receive a larger credit allowance to support the additional data and users across multiple client spaces. Credits are shared across the entire account, including the parent account and all managed clients, allowing teams to manage usage from a single credit pool.

AI performance summaries

Automatic updates to AI Summary visualizations will not use credits.

When the credit system becomes available, manually refreshing an AI Summary visualization will use a small number of credits.
