# Purge a dataset

Purging a dataset permanently removes all data previously synced into Databox for that dataset — without affecting data in the original source. This is useful when you need to clear out stale or incorrect data and allow Databox to re-sync a clean dataset on the next sync cycle.

## Purge a dataset

1. Open the **Datasets** tab from either location:
  - [Data Manager > Datasets](https://app.databox.com/data-manager/datasets)
  - [Account Management > Data Manager > Datasets](https://account.databox.com/data-manager/datasets)
2. Find the dataset you want to purge.
3. Click the **down arrow** (![chevron-down](/assets/chevron-down.dfd0e90adc6eb576be32262463090aae7c7f5408ed7975e3795f69775e36d174.419bb737.svg)) next to it and select **Purge historical data**.
4. In the confirmation dialog, review the warning message.
5. Click **Purge data** to confirm.

Purging a dataset cannot be undone. All data previously synced into Databox for this dataset will be permanently deleted. Data in the original source will not be affected.

Purging removes the synced data from the dataset but does not delete the dataset itself or any metrics created from it. Once data is re-synced, metrics will reflect the updated values.

Databox will re-sync data from the source on the next scheduled sync. The amount of historical data recovered depends on the sync history window available for that data source.

Purging removes all synced data from Databox while keeping the dataset and its configuration intact. Deleting removes the dataset entirely, along with any metrics built from it.
