# Integrate Instagram Business with Databox

Instagram Business accounts give brands, creators, and organizations access to professional tools for content publishing, audience engagement, and performance insights. They enable businesses to promote posts, run ads, and analyze results across Meta's connected platforms, helping strengthen brand presence and build meaningful connections with their audience.

## Connection

### Before you begin

An **Instagram Business account** must be connected to a **Facebook Page** to enable full access to Meta's APIs for insights, publishing, and advertising. This connection ensures that both platforms share the same business identity and permissions, managed through **Meta Business Manager**.

When connected, the **Facebook Page serves as the parent asset** that owns or manages the Instagram account. This relationship determines who can access the Instagram data, grant permissions to third-party tools, and manage roles across both platforms.

#### Hierarchy overview

```
        │
        ├── Facebook Page (managing entity)
        │        │
        │        └── Connected Instagram Business account
        │
        └── Other business assets (Ad accounts, Pixels, etc.)
```

- **User**: Must have appropriate permissions in Business Manager and on the Page.
- **Business Manager**: Owns and organizes assets like Pages, Instagram accounts, and ad accounts.
- **Facebook Page**: Acts as the bridge between Business Manager and the Instagram Business account.
- **Instagram Business account**: Inherits permissions and ownership through the linked Page.

Each Instagram Business account can be linked to only one Facebook Page, but a single Page can manage multiple Instagram accounts through Meta Business Manager.

If your credentials don't include full access to the data source, make sure your access level meets any permission requirements listed in the [Specification](https://databox.com/metric-library/data-source/instagram-business#technical-details) section of the integration's page in the Metric Library.

### Step 1: Add or choose the connection

To connect Instagram Business to your Databox account for the [first time](/add-a-connection), log in using your Facebook credentials.

If you've already established a connection, you can [reuse](/add-a-data-source) it to add new accounts, as long as those accounts are accessible with the existing connection's credentials.

### Step 2: Allow Databox to access your data

When you approve the Databox app, you authorize a secure connection to your Facebook account. This allows Databox to access only the reporting data needed to track and visualize your Instagram Business performance. No changes are made to your data, and you can revoke access at any time from your Facebook settings.

If your Facebook credentials are saved in your browser, the account may be selected automatically during the connection process. If this isn't the account you want to connect, we recommend completing the setup in an Incognito window to avoid automatic login.

### Step 3: Select the linked Facebook Page

If you manage multiple Facebook Pages, select the one that's linked to the Instagram Business account you want to connect. If you have only one Page, it will be selected automatically.

### Step 4: Select the Instagram Business account

Choose the Instagram Business account from those linked to the selected Facebook Page. If only one account is linked, it will be selected automatically.

The Instagram Business integration supports the creation of [datasets](/understanding-datasets), which allow you to structure and format your Instagram Business data for more flexible reporting in Databox. By organizing your data into a tabular format, datasets make it easier to filter, segment, and visualize key metrics across projects, clients, and team members.

The entity relationship diagram (ERD) below illustrates how data is organized within the Instagram Business integration, displaying the available **views** and **columns**, as well as the relationships between them (primary and foreign keys). This diagram represents the **schema**, or structure, of the data and helps you understand the underlying data model. With this context, you can create datasets using the relevant views and columns to build custom metrics tailored to your reporting needs.
