How to connect Matomo to Databox
To connect a Matomo Account in Databox, go to Data Manager > + New connection. Type Matomo in the search bar and click on the green Connect button. Next, click the green Connect now button.
This will open the Authorization window, which is where you will be prompted to enter your Matomo Token and Website URL.
To generate a Token in Matomo, follow the steps below:
- Login to your Matomo Account
- Click on the Settings in the top menu and navigate to the Matomo Admin
- Next, click on the Personal > Security and scroll down to the Auth token section
- Click on the Create New Token and confirm your account password
- In the description field, type in your purpose for this token
- Click on the Create New Token
- Once the token has been generated, enter it in the Databox's Activation window
Pro Tip: Save your Matomo Token generated for the Databox app somewhere safe, as you won't be able to access it after leaving that screen your Matomo account. If you lose it, you will need to generate a new token.
Next, to find the Website URL in Matomo, follow the steps below:
1. Login to your Matomo Account and copy the URL from your login page
Pro Tip: Each Matomo Account must be connected as a separate Data Source in Databox (1 Account = 1 Data Source). Learn more here.
What's the maximum amount of historical data initially available when you use a new Matomo Data Source Metric in Databox?
Data is synced for the Metrics that are being used in your Account, so when you first use a new Matomo Metric, the maximum amount of historical data available is 36 months.
For more information about the amount of historical data available for a specific Metric, please contact our Support Team via live chat or at help@databox.com.
Pro Tip: In order to start syncing data for a Metric, you can add it to your Metrics screen, use it in a Scorecard, set a Goal around it, create an Alert for it, or add it to a Databoard. Learn more here.
What time zone does Matomo data sync in?
Matomo data is synced in UTC. You can also select your own time zone set in the Matomo Account.
Pro Tip: If multiple time zones are selected in the Matomo account, you won’t be able to connect. It is therefore recommended that you should only select UTC in your account, so the data can sync with Databox.
How often does Matomo data sync?
All Matomo Data Sources will sync every hour with Databox. Learn more here.

Metric Considerations
- Due to technical limitations, the Metric “Unique Visitors” will show the big number on top of the metric for only the first interval. This means that it is not possible to view a “Total” number for a date range on the top of the metric. However, if you will display this metric on a Line chart for example, you will be able to view data for each day separately.
-
Due to API limitations, you can only retrieve up to (top) 100 custom dimensions. Learn more about this in their official documentation here.
If the desired dimensions (dimensions that do not have any values displayed) are not in the top 100 based on unique page views, no values are displayed because we get nothing via API.
