A slide presentation is a versatile tool for organizing and conveying information in a clear, structured format. It allows you to present ideas, data, and insights in a way that is easy for your audience to follow and engage with. By incorporating various content types and design elements, you can tailor the presentation to suit different learning styles and preferences. The flexibility to update and modify content quickly ensures that your presentations remain relevant and accurate.
Create a slide presentation
You can create a presentation in the following ways:
- On the Reports page, click + New Report.
- On the Looped Databoards page, click the down arrow and selecting Create a Report.
- On the Databoards page, hover over a Databoard, click More, select Add to Report, and then click + Create new Report in the selector.
Once in the report editor, you can:
- Add, reorder, duplicate, or delete slides.
- Name each slide in the bottom left corner.
- Customize the background by changing the color or adding an image.
Slide types
When creating a presentation, you can choose from six slide types, each designed to present information in a way that suits different viewer preferences and learning styles. These slide types include:
- Cover: For introducing your presentation, featuring an image, header, and introductory text.
- Databoard: Embeds an existing Databoard, providing a real-time, comprehensive view of multiple metrics.
- Text: For detailed written content and explanations.
- Image: For visual content, such as images or graphics.
- Side by Side: Allows you to display two separate columns with text, metrics, or images.
- Data Story: Embeds dynamic data into text, creating a narrative around performance metrics.
Each slide features a resizable Slide Notes section below, where you can add insights or comments about the data. This section will appear in the exported slide, with a 10,000 character limit for the text.
Cover
The cover slide serves as the opening page of a presentation, setting the stage for the information that follows. It helps establish a clear, professional first impression and offers viewers a quick preview of the presentation's focus and purpose.
Features
Here’s how to make the most of your cover slide:
- Add an image, header, and text to the cover slide
- Include your company logo to reinforce brand identity
- Provide introductory information to set the context for the presentation
Considerations
- The maximum supported image file size is 10 MB; however, It’s recommended to use images no larger than 1 MB to keep the exported presentation size manageable, as larger file sizes can cause issues when attaching the report to an email.
Databoard
The Databoard slide lets you embed an existing Databoard into the presentation, providing a dynamic way to display multiple metrics and KPIs. It updates automatically with real-time data, ensuring your presentation reflects the most current performance insights and supporting informed decision-making.
Considerations
- Changes made to the source Databoard will be reflected in the presentation.
- Date range selections on the slide will not affect the default date ranges of the source Databoard.
- The Databoard cannot be edited directly within the presentation. However, by clicking Edit Databoard in the top left corner, you'll be taken to the Databoard designer, where you can make any necessary changes.
Text
The text slide adds context and key insights to enhance the data on other slides. It allows you to provide background, highlight key points, and offer deeper analysis without overwhelming the visuals. This helps audiences better understand the data's significance and ties metrics to the larger story, making the presentation more engaging and informative.
Features
Text slides offer a variety of formatting options, including:
- Font family, style, size and color
- Alignment and indentation
-
Bulleted and numbered lists
-
Hyperlinks
Additionally, text slides can include Data Story elements (see more in the Data Story section below).
Considerations
- If your text extends beyond the slide and requires scrolling to view, any overflow text will not appear in the exported presentation.
Image
The image slide enhances a presentation by simplifying complex ideas, adding visual appeal, and engaging the audience. It can highlight key points, evoke emotions, or support data, making the content more relatable. Relevant visuals, like product photos or infographics, keep the audience engaged and reinforce the message, making it more memorable and impactful.
Features
- Static images in JPG, PNG, or GIF formats can be displayed, with a maximum file size of 10 MB.
- Uploaded images can be cropped to fit your layout and presentation needs.
Considerations
- It’s recommended to use images no larger than 1 MB to keep the exported presentation size manageable, as larger file sizes can cause issues when attaching the report to an email.
Side by Side
The side by side slide allows you to expand on, compare or contrast information in a clear and organized way. Use it to elaborate on visualized data, to highlight differences, or present two related ideas in parallel, making it easier for the audience to see connections or distinctions between the elements being presented.
Features
Side by side slides offer flexible layout options, including:
- The slide is divided into two separate columns for flexible layout.
- Each column can contain text, a metric or an image.
- Metrics added to columns can be displayed using any available visualization type.
- Easily switch between visualization types using the top right corner of the visualization.
- Data Story elements can be included (see more in the Data Story section below).
Considerations
-
It’s recommended to use images no larger than 1 MB to keep the exported presentation size manageable, as larger file sizes can cause issues when attaching the report to an email.
- If your text extends beyond the slide and requires scrolling to view, any overflow text will not appear in the exported presentation.
Data Story
Features
The Data Story slide offers the same text customization options as the text slide.
Supported metric elements include:
- Metric name and value
- Date range
- Comparison value, percentage change, and comparison period
Considerations
- Each added metric or dimension is limited to a single comparison period.
- Custom text should remain neutral and adaptable, as values will fluctuate over time.
