Custom Metrics to report on Product Performance

Using the Query Builder for Google Analytics, you can create Custom Metrics like "Revenue by Product," "Quantity by Product Category," and more.

Query Builder is available in Plus and Business Accounts. Agency Basic Accounts have access to Query Builder in the Agency Account only. Request a trial of Query Builder by following these steps.

Navigate to  Metrics > Query Builder to access the Query Builder for Google Analytics. Click the green + New Custom Metric button and select your connected Google Analytics Account from the Data Source drop-down.

Choose the metric you'd like to track from the  Metric drop-down. Select Product as the Dimension. This will split up the selected Metric based on Product.

Pro Tip: Filters restrict the data that gets included in the Custom Metric. If you'd like to create Custom Metrics to further analyze the performance of a specific Product, you can add a Filter so data is only retained for the specified Product.
Click  Run query to generate a Data Preview of the Custom Metric. Once you confirm that these are the results you're looking for, click  Save.

Now you can easily create more Custom Metrics based on the Products.
To do this, simply duplicate the original Custom Metric that you created. Update the Custom Metric Name, Metric selection, and any other fields you see fit. Click  Save to save the new Custom Metric.
Repeat this process for any Product Performance Metrics you'd like to build.

To view the performance of a specific Product on a Databoard, set up your Datablock in a way that prompts you to select a specific Dimension (Product). Learn how to select a specific Product on a Datablock here
