Google is officially sunsetting Universal Analytics on July 1, 2023.

Google Analytics 4 is the recommended replacement. Due to the differences in tracking logic used in Universal Analytics vs Google Analytics 4, historical data will not transfer from one to the other.

Because of this, it's important to get Google Analytics 4 set up as soon as possible in order to start accumulating data in this new system.

Basic Metrics to report on Goals

There are a variety of Basic Google Universal Analytics Metrics available in Databox to report on Goal data. 

To view these Metrics in Databox, navigate to  Metrics > Metrics Library and select Google Universal Analytics from the Data Source drop-down. Enter "Goal" in the Search bar to view all available Metrics. 

Add any significant Metrics to your Metrics screen by hovering over the logo in the top right of the Metric block and clicking  + Add to my Metrics

Product Performance

Basic Metrics to report on Product Performance

There are a variety of Basic Google Universal Analytics Metrics available in Databox to report on Product Performance

To view these Metrics in Databox, navigate to  Metrics > Metrics Library and select Google Universal Analytics from the Data Source drop-down. Enter the Metric name from Google Universal Analytics in the Search bar to view available Metrics in Databox. 

Add any significant Metrics to your Metrics screen by hovering over the logo in the top right of the Metric block and clicking  + Add to my Metrics

Custom Metrics to report on Product Performance

Using the Metric Builder for Google Universal Analytics, you can create Custom Metrics like "Revenue by Product," "Quantity by Product Category," and more. 

Metric Builder is available on Professional and higher plans. Request a trial of Metric Builder by following these steps


Navigate to  Metrics > Custom Metrics to access the Metric Builder for Google Universal Analytics. Click the green + New Custom Metric button and select your connected Google Universal Analytics Account from the Data Source drop-down. 

Choose the metric you'd like to track from the  Metric drop-down. Select Product as the Dimension. This will split up the selected Metric based on Product. 

Pro Tip: Filters restrict the data that gets included in the Custom Metric. If you'd like to create Custom Metrics to further analyze the performance of a specific Product, you can add a Filter so data is only retained for the specified Product.  

Click Preview data  to generate a Data Preview of the Custom Metric. Once you confirm that these are the results you're looking for, click  Save.

To view the performance of a specific Product on a Databoard, set up your Datablock in a way that prompts you to select a specific Dimension (Product). Learn how to select a specific Product on a Datablock here

Sales Performance

Basic Metrics to report on Sales Performance

There are Basic Google Universal Analytics Metrics available in Databox to report on "Revenue" and "Quantity."  

To view these Metrics in Databox, navigate to  Metrics > Metrics Library and select Google Universal Analytics from the Data Source drop-down. Enter the Metric name from Google Universal Analytics in the Search bar to view available Metrics in Databox. 

Add any significant Metrics to your Metrics screen by hovering over the logo in the top right of the Metric block and clicking  + Add to my Metrics

Custom Metrics to report on Sales Performance

Using the Metric Builder for Google Universal Analytics, you can create Custom Metrics like "Revenue by Transaction ID," "Tax by Transaction ID," and more. 

Metric Builder is available on Professional and higher plans. Request a trial of Metric Builder by following these steps

    Navigate to  Metrics > Custom Metrics to access the Metric Builder for Google Universal Analytics. Click the green + New Custom Metric button and select your connected Google Universal Analytics Account from the Data Source drop-down. 

    Choose the metric you'd like to track from the  Metric drop-down. Type Transaction in the Dimension drop-down and select a Dimension, such as Transaction ID. This will split up the selected Metric based on Transaction ID. 

    Pro Tip: Filters restrict the data that gets included in the Custom Metric. If you'd like to create Custom Metrics to further analyze the performance of a specific Transaction ID, you can add a Filter so data is only retained for the specified Transaction ID.  

    Click Preview data  to generate a Data Preview of the Custom Metric. Once you confirm that these are the results you're looking for, click  Save.
