Overview: Metric Builder

With Metric Builder, you can create Custom Metrics for select Data Sources by adding Dimensions, Segments, Filters, and more.

Metric Builder often allows you to access additional Metrics or Dimensions from a Data Source and enhance your Databox reports.

How to use Metric Builder for Native Integrations

Metric Builders for Native Integrations are the most plug-and-play of all Metric Builders. These are designed to help you build Custom Metrics for Data Sources we are strong native integrations with. Users of all skill levels should be able to use this type of Metric Builder.

While the Metric Builder itself may look slightly different based on the integration, they all generally ask the user to select:

  • Data Source: The Data Source that the Custom Metric will sync data from.
  • Metric: A Metric from your connected Data Source, like “Pageviews” or “Deals Created.” Metrics represent a quantitative measurement, meaning there is a numerical value associated with it.
  • Dimension: The Dimensions parameter re-categorizes the returned Metric value based on common criteria.
Pro Tip: Add the word "by" in between the Metric and Dimension in order to determine an appropriate Custom Metric Name. From the Metric and Dimension examples outlined above, we could create the Custom Metrics "Sessions by Country," "Leads by Source," and "Impressions by Campaign."
  • Filter: Filters restrict the data that gets included in the Custom Metric.
Pro Tip: Filters are case-sensitive. You should set identical filter entries as is set in the Data Source UI in order to avoid potential Custom Metric setup problems due to unrecognized filter entries. Learn more about how to identify correct entry names here.
  • Favourable Trend: You can select when "Trending UP is positive" or "Trending DOWN is positive," since some metrics are better (positive) when the value is lower (like Bounce rate, Churn rate, etc.). This will affect how comparison values and goal comparisons are calculated and calculated for the custom metric
